I like these images and I think I'll use something this for my final project.

Back To The Motherland...Africa

For this project, I've chosen to transport the viewer to Africa. Since the rhythm and style of hip-hop comes from Africa, I feel like this was the appropriate choice.

2nd Assignment: Portraits

Mike Schreiber

I think I found the perfect photographer for my style, Mike Schreiber. He takes a lot of shots of hip-hop artists and hip-hop themes. He uses mostly black and white images. I hope to emulate him in my next project.

Inspiration for the next assignment

One of my favorite visual artists is Kehinde Wiley. I feel that it is appropriate to talk about him considering our current assignment is for portraiture. Wiley takes urban, black men and has them go through classical images for a pose to use. He then has them pose with their urban attire still on. After he is done painting, he adds a design reminiscent of wallpaper to the background. He picks these specific subjects because "black males are missing from this style of art," according to Wiley. These are a few of his paintings.

My first official photos

While most of these photos don't fit the hip-hop mold, I decided to use these specific shots to fit the criteria of the assignment. I'm still learning though, so hopefully I will be able to improve my subject matter and shots so that I can speak visually through this musical art form.
